wicked weekend
Friday, July 17, 2009

had a great weekend while being able to finish most of my work! am in inpatient now at the hospital and it makes me really tired and hungry. packing makes time fly though. today passed so quickly, there wasn't enough time for monday bluess...

on saturday, dhan planned a birthday party for his younger bro and invited us to his place to join in the celebrations!

there was a bbq and the food was really good. especially his mum's beehoon and this home-made chilli padi - soya sauce - parsley mix. dhan warned us it was scorching. we tried it and it wasn't that hot, so we dipped more..and it was scorching hot like ten mins later! my nose was running like any!

with chandran, dhan's younger bro..happy birthday!

went home rather late so i fell asleep after 3am, only to wake up at 6.30am for the shape run. thank goodness my father could give me a lift! all in all..it was a rather good run, ran a few times in the weeks leading to the run, paced myself and hit my goal to run the 10k under 70 mins. (((:

the collage above was koped from car! love it alot! and i think car's bitten by the running bug as well..she's gonna run ge and stanchart! you rock laa car..train hard okay?

was so bushed from the lack of sleep, i fell asleep on top of my readings around 10 at night. wow i'm sleeping earlier by the days. it's barely 1am now and i already feel my eyes closing..

here's a bit of tokyo with my family. gonna blog bout it bit by bit..loads of photo backlogs...

we reached tokyo on day 0, in the night, took the airport limousine bus to our hotel. bought ice cream at the family mart at the hotel lobby and called it a night.

day 1 saw us heading to neighbouring yokohama on the train..we got out at rush hour and it was crazily packed on the train.

my dad squashed at the side of the doors.

oh here's the reason for our running into the peak hour office crowd. we had our brekkie at kfc and i really wonder why this is not available in singapore. fluffy yet yeastey white bread enclosing a poached egg cooked just done, with melted cheese and ham...mmm...

i made sure i got my hokkaido milk..really creamy!

anyhows, japan has these trains with carriages reserved for women only during the peak hours. haha my dad's not really happy with it!

these are actually holders for your train tickets..

you buy a little magnetic strip ticket thing at the ticketing booths...

and slip it into these little holders so that you don't lose your tickets on your train journey.

first place we headed to was chinatown in yokohama. my mum wanted to visit it so that was her requested slot in the itenary.

we bought this humongous pau for 10 sing bucks..it was really huge..but it tasted alright only.

then we visited the first supermarket we saw. and there were palm-sized watermelon and honeydews!

and i saw this drink in their many vending machines along the street and bought it because the can was black and pink in colour and oh so pretty. but it tasted like freshly squeezed peaches..really concentrated and good. i still have one of these at home i think. we went to this store selling can drinks and alcoholic drinks at rock-bottom prices and bought as many as we could carry.

we then headed to central yokohama where all the malls are. went to SOGO's food market hall and bought chicken wings and chips. looks really good doesn't it? well it wasn't, was cold and i think we weren't supposed to eat in public in japan. as in eating in restaurants and all that is fine. but eating on the streets is a strict nono. we found a bench but think we still looked a little out of place. apparently the benches are only for people who bought ice creams. you can't possibly bring your ice creams home to eat without melting can you..

went to their departmental store called Loft. i think it's something like a muji but they sell stuff that's not their home brand.

haha some hard banana case. think it was to keep your leftover banana in case you can't finish the entire thing.

we headed down to the market hall again for tea break

this shop was emiting a wonderous smell

you buy mini bread items by the weight

we bought the baked mini mochi which tasted more like miso soup..not very pleasant..

unsatisfied, my mum went to buy a cream horn..now this was good!

on our way back to tokyo, we saw the prettiest flower shop. now i know why little girls dream of being florists..

we hit shibuya the moment we reached tokyo, here's us at the crazy huge middle junction

then bernice and i split from our parents coz we had different objectives in mind. ((: back to our 350yen shop which we went crazy at 2 years ago, didn't find much this time, but i got a studded belt which i'm gonna destud and use it to stud my jeans...when i can find the time that is...

we were horrified of the dark grungey place 2 years ago, with all the punk-styled dressers with their huge blonde hairstyle, was still quite afraid this time but we ventured into some of the shops..

met up with the folks again and my dad excitedly exclaimed that he found a ramen shop. haha it was the kind you had to buy a ticket outside at a vending machine and have it exchanged for your meal when you went into the shop.

everyone sits around the kitchen at a bartop and eats their ramen as quickly as possible.

bee's ramen had this egg that was done just right. non fully cooked but still solidified, a little like the poached egg from kfc, but was soo good!

walked around a little more before heading back for the night, and there was all these fruits stores that sold fruits at exorbitant prices. we saw durians! err but it cost like 80 sing buck for one fruit. that's crazy!
